Mies Van de Rohe: The Farnsworth House

Mies has left the imression that he approaches the design of his buildings with the minimum of order or geometric structure. The opposite turns out to be true with extensive use of Harmonics. This study shows that the Mies is highly ordered using both number and geometry at the most detailed level. His Farnsworth design is structured around the number 11 and multiples or fractions of that number. This is apparent in the setting out of both the plan and the elevation. The research into this video also found that Mies has a affinity with the 100 foot measurement which shows up repeatedly in his other buildings, such as Crown House, Villa Tugendhat, Brick Country House and the Fifty Foot House, a lower Octave of 100 foot in harmonics.
